If you can’t remember the last time you felt excited by life, say goodbye to these 9 habits

Life is meant to be exciting, isn’t it? But sometimes, we find ourselves stuck in a rut, going through the motions and forgetting what it feels like to be truly thrilled by life.

I’m here to tell you that if you can’t remember the last time you felt excited about your life, there might be certain habits holding you back.

In this article, I’m going to share with you nine habits that could be dulling your enthusiasm for life. It’s time to say goodbye to these habits and reclaim your zest for living.

And remember, change starts with a single step. Are you ready to take that step?

Let’s dive in.

1) Living in the past

We all have a past, don’t we? It’s part of what shapes us and molds us into who we are today. But sometimes, we can get so caught up in our past that it starts to impact our present.

When you constantly dwell on past mistakes or glory days, it can leave you feeling stuck and unable to appreciate what’s happening around you right now.

Moving forward can be difficult, particularly when past experiences have left you feeling bruised. But the truth is, life is a continuous journey and the only way to get excited about it again is by looking ahead.

We need to learn from the past, yes, but we also need to let it go. Embrace the present and get excited about the future. You’ll be surprised at how this simple shift in focus can reignite your enthusiasm for life.

It’s not about forgetting your past, but rather about not letting it control your present. Letting go of this habit may be challenging, but trust me, it’s worth it!

2) Neglecting self-care

I’ve been there, trust me. I used to be the type of person who would put everyone else’s needs before my own. I was so busy taking care of everyone else that I forgot to take care of myself.

I started feeling drained, uninspired and just…blah. Life lost its color and I couldn’t remember the last time I felt excited about anything.

It wasn’t until a friend pointed it out, that I realized I had been neglecting my own self-care. From that day on, I made a promise to myself to prioritize self-care.

I started with small steps – taking time for a relaxing bath, reading a book, going for a walk in nature, or simply enjoying a cup of tea in silence. Before I knew it, these moments of solitude and relaxation started bringing back joy and excitement into my life.

Trust me, when you start taking care of yourself, you’ll not only feel better but also start seeing life through a more vibrant lens.

3) Multitasking

In our fast-paced world, multitasking is often praised as a valuable skill. We’re led to believe that doing multiple things at once means we’re productive and efficient. But did you know that according to a recent Stanford University research, multitasking actually reduces productivity and efficiency?

That’s right. When you’re juggling multiple tasks at once, your attention is divided between all these tasks which results in none of them getting your full focus. This can lead to mistakes, stress and a lack of satisfaction in your work.

What’s more, constantly switching between tasks can leave you feeling mentally exhausted and rob you of the joy of immersing yourself in one task at a time.

If you’re feeling unenthusiastic about life, it might be time to rethink your multitasking habits. Try focusing on one task at a time, giving it your undivided attention. Not only will this improve the quality of your work but it could also bring back the excitement and satisfaction that comes with accomplishing one task well.

4) Comparing yourself to others

This is a trap most of us fall into. Be it through social media or in our real-life interactions, we often find ourselves comparing our lives to those of others.

We look at their achievements, their relationships, their lifestyle and soon enough, we start feeling inadequate. This comparison game can quickly rob us of our joy and excitement for life.

But here’s the thing – every person has a different journey. Your path is unique to you and it’s unfair to compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter twenty.

Instead of focusing on others, try turning your attention inwards. Celebrate your own achievements, no matter how small they seem. Appreciate the life you have and strive to improve it on your own terms.

Once you stop comparing yourself to others, you might just find that life becomes a lot more exciting and satisfying.

5) Neglecting your passions

Do you remember the last time you did something just because you loved doing it? Not because it was required or because it could earn you money, but simply because it made your heart sing?

Often, in the hustle and bustle of life, we put our passions on the back burner. We force ourselves into routines and tasks that we don’t truly enjoy, leaving little time for what we actually love.

This can leave us feeling unfulfilled and unexcited about life. But the good news is, it’s never too late to reignite your passion.

Find some time in your schedule to do what you love. It could be painting, hiking, playing a musical instrument, or even just reading a good book. Engaging in a hobby or passion can bring a sense of joy and excitement back into your life.

If you can’t remember the last time you felt excited about life, it might be time to reconnect with your passions. Trust me, it will make a world of difference.

6) Holding on to grudges

Life can be tough, and people can hurt us. It’s a harsh reality. We’ve all been wronged at some point, and it’s natural to feel hurt, betrayed or angry.

But holding on to these grudges? It’s like carrying a heavy load on your shoulders, day in and day out. It weighs you down and drains the excitement out of life.

Forgiveness is not about letting the other person off the hook. It’s about setting yourself free from the burden of resentment and anger. It’s about giving yourself permission to move forward and embrace joy and excitement again.

Letting go of grudges doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and it’s a journey. But every step you take towards forgiveness is a step towards reclaiming the excitement in your life.

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, maybe it’s time to let go of old grudges and open your heart to forgiveness. It may be difficult, but believe me, the freedom that comes with forgiveness is absolutely worth it.

7) Saying yes to everything

There was a time in my life when I found it hard to say no. I would agree to every commitment, every favor, every invitation that came my way. I thought that by saying yes to everything, I was being helpful and accommodating.

But all it did was leave me feeling stretched thin and overwhelmed. I had no time for myself, no time for rest, and certainly no time to enjoy life.

The day I decided to start saying no was the day I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. It wasn’t easy, but it allowed me to reclaim my time and start engaging in activities that truly brought me joy.

By learning to say no, you give yourself the freedom to say yes to things that truly matter to you. It allows you to prioritize your needs and find excitement in life again.

8) Overthinking

Overthinking is like a hamster wheel. It’s a constant cycle of thoughts that goes round and round but never really gets you anywhere.

We often overthink when we’re anxious about the future or ruminating about the past. This constant analysis can leave us feeling exhausted and take the joy out of our daily lives.

The key is to learn how to manage these thoughts. Mindfulness techniques, meditation, or even just taking a walk in nature can help quieten the mind and bring you back to the present moment.

Remember, life is happening right now, in this moment. So if you’re constantly stuck in your head, it might be time to step outside and embrace life as it unfolds.

Learning to control your overthinking habit can bring a fresh perspective and once again make life feel exciting and vibrant. Give it a try, you might be surprised at the results.

9) Not taking risks

Life is full of opportunities, but they often come dressed as risks. The fear of failure or the unknown can hold us back from taking these risks and experiencing new things.

But here’s the thing: without risk, there is no reward. It’s in stepping out of our comfort zones that we grow, learn and feel truly alive.

Taking risks doesn’t necessarily mean jumping out of a plane or investing all your savings into a business. It could simply mean trying a new hobby, making a new friend or standing up for what you believe in.
