The Galaxy A16 5G has officially been listed on Samsung’s website, despite no formal announcement from the company. While the price remains undisclosed, the major highlight is its promise of six years of software updates, marking a significant step for non-flagship models. The Galaxy A16 5G is the first non-flagship Samsung phone to boast six years of updates, aimed at offering longevity and consistent performance.
The phone comes pre-installed with the latest Android version and is projected to receive updates up to Android 20, or whatever version is available in 2030. In terms of durability, the Galaxy A16 5G holds an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, which, while not as high as the IP67 or IP68 ratings seen on Samsung’s pricier models, is still commendable for an entry-level device. Sporting a slim 7.9mm profile, the Galaxy A16 5G does not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Underneath the hood lies a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 25W charging.
Samsung’s long-term software support
The device is powered by an Exynos 1330 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable up to 1.5TB via microSD card—a first for Samsung smartphones, as all previous models supported up to 1TB.
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP primary shooter, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies and video calls, there is a 13MP front camera nestled in an Infinity-U notch above a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, which features a 90Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. The Galaxy A16 5G is set to be available in several colors, including Blue Black, Light Gray, Gold, and Light Green.
Availability may vary by market. Although the price hasn’t been revealed, expectations are high given the specifications and update promise. Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G is carving out a niche for itself by offering extended software support and a robust set of features for a non-flagship model, setting a new standard for mid-range smartphones.
