BAE Systems has announced the availability of its RAD510™ software development unit (SDU) to the space community. This SDU allows customers to start implementing and testing software as they prepare to transition from the RAD750® single-board computer (SBC) to the next-generation RAD510™ SBC. The RAD510 SBC is currently in qualification and offers three times the performance capability of its predecessor.
It supports critical space missions. By offering the RAD510 SDU at the same time as SBC qualification, BAE Systems enables users to develop, integrate, and test their own applications. This helps reduce risk and makes it easier to adopt the new solution.
The RAD510 SBC will launch in an industry-standard 3U form factor. It uses software compatible with both BAE Systems’ RAD750 and RAD5545® SBCs. This design commonality is expected to reduce user software development costs.
The next-generation SBC provides increased processing capability and interface connectivity. At the same time, it maintains the same size, weight, and power specifications as the RAD750 SBC. It uses a system-on-chip architecture as the primary processing component.

It also benefits from the radiation advantages of rad-hard 45 nanometer silicon-on-insulator technology. Like its predecessor, the RAD510 SBC is designed to withstand the challenging conditions of the space environment.
This includes radiation and extreme temperatures. BAE Systems’ RAD750 SBC has enabled more than 100 satellites to perform a variety of missions. This establishes a strong legacy of success.
The RAD510 SBC builds on this legacy by providing a highly reliable, radiation-hardened solution that scales performance while requiring less power.
