AI Chat

YouTube has started rolling out a new conversational AI feature for Premium subscribers using Android devices in the United States. This tool allows users to ask questions about the videos they are watching and get immediate answers or summaries. To access the feature, users will see a comments bubble on their Android devices.

Swiping left on the comments card reveals a new “Ask” card. Tapping this card opens a chatbot interface where users can ask questions or request video summaries. There is also an option to hit “Summarize video” for an AI-generated synopsis.

AI chat feature for Premium users

YouTube has not specified when or if the feature will expand to non-Premium members or users outside the U.S. The specific AI model powering the tool has not been disclosed, but it is presumed to use Google’s Gemini technology. This move is part of YouTube’s broader strategy to integrate AI tools into the platform.

Other AI-driven features being explored include chatbots modeled after famous personalities and tools to identify popular parts of videos. Creators also have access to AI tools for managing copyrighted music and generating video backgrounds. As Google continues to integrate AI into YouTube, these tools are expected to become a routine part of the user experience.

The conversational AI feature is intended to enhance the viewer experience by providing immediate answers and details, potentially reducing the need for creators to moderate comments for frequently asked questions.
