The New York Times’ latest word game, “Connections,” challenges players to group 16 words into four categories that share a common theme. Each day brings a new puzzle with varying difficulty levels. Today’s puzzle features categories related to impressive sports achievements, painting supplies, iconic city dishes, and types of derby races.
The yellow category, usually the easiest, includes words like “hat trick,” “threepeat,” “trifecta,” and “triple crown.” These terms all refer to accomplishing a trio of feats in sports. The green category focuses on items needed for painting a room, such as “drop cloth,” “paint,” “roller,” and “tape.” Moving on to the blue category, players will find foods named after cities, including “cheesesteak,” “sprouts,” and “wings.”
The purple category, often the most challenging, stumped many players today.
Today’s puzzle categories explained
The correct answer was simply “derby,” as all the other words could be paired with it to form different types of derby races. Players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game ends, and they can shuffle the words on the board to better spot connections. The game is available on both web browsers and mobile devices.
