Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has clarified recent comments from CEO Piotr Babieno about pushing Konami to release the game on PC. The studio stated that quotes suggesting they “pushed Konami very hard to release the game on PC” were taken out of context and misrepresented Babieno’s words. According to Bloober, Babieno’s comment was a reply to a shareholder’s inquiry about the intentions for a PC release.
Babieno’s actual words were: “The Steam version has generated considerable interest, and we believe that, in addition to PlayStation, the Steam version will also be a success. Both we and Konami are pleased with the collaboration and are confident that this is not the end of our journey together.”
The Silent Hill 2 remake was announced in October 2022, and it has faced a challenging road to launch. When fans took issue with a combat trailer released in January, Babieno clarified that the footage was handled by Konami, not Bloober.
He urged fans to give the team “a chance” and stay hopeful for the remake. The game is set for release on October 8th for PC and PS5, and it is poised to be one of the major releases of the fall season.
Konami and Bloober clarify release strategy
However, due to an exclusivity deal with Sony, players on other consoles will have to wait for at least one year. Bloober Team admits that they haven’t yet met all their milestones, but with the game’s release slated for October, they expect a significant impact on their financial results in the fourth quarter. Babieno highlighted the considerable interest from PC gamers, emphasizing that most of the revenue for Silent Hill 2 would come from those who purchase it on platforms beyond PlayStation.
Despite not divulging how milestones are distributed, Bloober Team’s president noted that Konami is tremendously pleased with the collaboration so far. “You can expect that this is not the end of the adventure with Konami,” he affirmed. This suggests the possibility of more Silent Hill remakes in the future, given the enduring popularity of the franchise’s earlier titles.
The Silent Hill 2 remake is priced at $69.99, with a Digital Deluxe version costing $79.99. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both Bloober Team and Konami, potentially paving the way for more exciting projects in the Silent Hill universe.
