Fab Marketplace

Epic Games has officially begun the process for the launch of Fab, a unified marketplace designed for digital content creators using Unreal Engine and Unity. Starting today, creators can upload their products to the Fab Publishing Portal ahead of the public unveiling of Fab.com in mid-October. First introduced at the Game Developers Conference last March, Fab.com aims to merge the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab Store, Quixel, and ArtStation Marketplace into a single platform.

It will cater to a diverse set of users across industries such as gaming, visual effects, animation, design, architecture, and fashion. Epic Games plans to expand support to more engines over time. Fab is designed as a “one-stop destination” where users can discover, buy, sell, and share assets.

It operates on an 88/12 revenue share policy to help creators build sustainable businesses. Fab promises multi-engine and multi-platform support, featuring compatibility with Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Maya, Substance 3D, and more. Accepted asset types include 3D models, 2D assets, environments, audio, tools, and plugins in multiple formats.

New file formats, such as those for Minecraft and Roblox, and access to MetaHumans will be added in the future.

The platform will integrate seamlessly with Unreal Engine and UEFN, allowing creators to bring assets directly into their projects.

Users will also benefit from a next-generation real-time 3D viewer to inspect assets and present their work in real-time 3D. Fab will feature advanced search and discovery tools to help users find assets quickly, with various licensing options and tiered pricing. Sellers can make their products available for personal or professional use at different price points.

Additionally, Epic Games is committed to AI transparency, enabling creators to control whether their assets can be used to train generative AI programs. The Fab Publishing Portal will open in two phases. Initially, Unreal Engine Marketplace creators can migrate their products to Fab by logging in with their Epic Games account.

A second phase in early October will open the portal to new publishers and include a tool to migrate Sketchfab content. Until the end of 2024, Fab publishers will earn a 100% revenue share on sales of Fab Standard-licensed products. To celebrate the launch, Epic Games is collaborating with Adobe to offer a free 6-month subscription to Adobe Substance Painter and Modeler for users who publish a Fab-licensed product or make a minimum purchase of $25.
