Apple releases iOS 18 with mixed reviews

Mixed Reviews

Apple has released iOS 18, bringing new features and customization options to the iPhone.

The update offers deeper personalization for the Home Screen and Control Center, allowing users to arrange app icons, widgets, and controls to their preferences. The Photos app has received a major redesign, with a simplified layout and on-device intelligence organizing photos into collections.

Messages and Mail have also been improved, with new formatting options and intelligent categorization. Safari introduces a distraction-free Reader mode, while a new Passwords app helps manage and secure credentials. iOS 18 also enhances gaming performance and accessibility features, including Eye Tracking and Music Haptics.

Emergency SOS Live Video allows users to share context with first responders during emergency calls. The Health app now better supports users during pregnancy, and Apple Fitness+ includes personalized workout and meditation recommendations.

Ios 18’s new features and controversies

Starting next month, iOS 18 will introduce Apple Intelligence, combining generative models with personal context while maintaining privacy.

AirPods updates include Voice Isolation and Personalized Spatial Audio, with AirPods Pro 2 featuring an over-the-counter Hearing Aid capability later this fall. However, the update has also faced criticism from some users.

The redesigned Photos app has been called “clunky and weird,” while others have complained that the new customization options make the iPhone harder to navigate. Some users have also reported bugs and crashes when using the update. Despite the excitement surrounding new features like RCS messaging, experts have pointed out that the protocol lacks end-to-end encryption, compromising security compared to other messaging platforms.

Critics suggest that Apple and Google could have collaborated on a more secure solution. Overall, while iOS 18 brings significant updates and enhancements, it has also faced mixed reactions from users grappling with the changes and missing features.
