Saber Interactive, the developer behind the highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake, has received a significant financial boost. The company recently announced a fresh investment of nearly $250 million from private equity firms Aleph Capital Partners and Crestview Partners. This investment comes as a relief to fans who were concerned about the project’s future following a series of setbacks and uncertainties.
Saber Interactive took over the development of the KOTOR remake from Aspyr Media, which had struggled with production challenges. In a press release, Saber Interactive highlighted its ongoing commitment to the project, stating that the investment will help pay off existing debts and accelerate growth initiatives. The company also mentioned that the KOTOR remake is still in active development and is one of its prioritized titles.
Aleph’s investment boosts KOTOR remake
“It’s clear and obvious we are working on [the remake]. It’s alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations,” said a Saber Interactive spokesperson in April.
The KOTOR remake aims to update the classic 2003 BioWare RPG, bringing it to new audiences while retaining the essence that made the original a beloved classic. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this remake, given the impact and popularity of the original game. Alongside KOTOR, Saber Interactive has several other notable projects in its pipeline, including games based on “A Quiet Place,” “Jurassic Park,” “John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando,” and “Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.”
The recent affirmation from Saber Interactive and the substantial investment should reassure fans who have been waiting for updates on the iconic RPG’s return.
While further details on the game’s release are still awaited, the confirmation that KOTOR is “alive and well” is a significant development in the gaming world.
