Are There Myths of Software As A Service?
I was reading a recent Business Week article about software as a service, from Gene Marks, a respected technologist who I've known for years (mainly via email). His latest Business Week post is a bit "down" on software as a service. Some of the myths (as he calls them) about software as a service he debunks are:
- It's quicker to setup
- Your data is secure
- It's cheaper
- It reduces hardware investment
I highly suggest you read Gene's article and then read the 30+ comments on his article.
Reading both sides of this issue will give you a much better understanding of the issue and in the end, let you make the right decision of what works for you - in consultation with your local computer consultant. SaaS, software or a mix of the two as most small businesses will end up using.
