RFID is Not Just for WalMart: Smaller Businessses Leverage Can Leverage It As Well

There are several large manufacturers and retailers (such as Gilette and Wal-Mart) that are leading the use of RFID to make their operations more efficient overall (from logistics, to inventory, to theft reduction and more).

However, there's many smaller retailers who might want to consider RFID for their own operations as well. IBM is ready to help.

Schiff Nutrition International develops, manufactures, markets and distributes branded and private label vitamins, nutritional supplements and nutrition bars in the United States and throughout the world. They turned to IBM Global Services and Business Partner OATSystems to help implement an RFID solution.

IBM's goal was to provide them with a solution that would not only help them be more efficient in their own distribution center / warehouse, but that also was interoperable with other supply chain partners, highly scalable and replicable.

This goal would benefit Schiff, as their RFID solution would work with their partners and customers, but would also ensure that whatever solution IBM developed could be used for other companies as well.

You can find out more about IBM's RFID solutions here.
