How can I maximize my sales and marketing with a limited budget?

One of the toughest aspects of running a business is working to keep a steady flow of revenue coming in, while limiting the expenses going out. In order to keep revenue flowing, one of the most important things you need is a steady base of customers.
Large companies have an army of sales staff, a huge advertising budget and plenty of other resources to keep revenue flowing. But even with all of these resources they struggle.
What about your business?
If you have a small business, you don't have a large sales staff (it might be just you and 5 other people). The closest thing you have to an advertising budget might be the $100 you spent on business cards. The only additional resources you see could be the full cup of coffee (cold by now) sitting on your desk from early in the morning.
