Big, Huge, Fat Notebooks Are the Rage

Most times we focus on notebook computers that are thin and light - 3lbs, or at best 6lbs or so. However, PC makers are making computers that have larger monitors up to 17". Although many of these laptops are probably going to be snapped up by gamers, another market for them will be businesses that want to save on space and still enable some level of mobility.

Maybe there's a sales exec who drives in to the office 2 days per week and works from home the rest. She would not want to carry a notebook this size all the time, but a few times a week from the office to the car to home is not bad to have a full sized computer in a desktop size.

Reuters writes Dell was also targeting high-performance aficionados when it announced the release of its 20-inch laptop model last week.

In keeping with its high-end target audience, the model -- which starts at $3,500 -- comes with a slew of bells and whistles, including eight speakers plus subwoofer, detachable wireless keyboard and a gyroscope-enabled remote.

Samsung's model, which sells for more than $5,000, is also targeted at the high-end, and comes with a detachable screen so that users can hook it up to their desktop monitors.
