Yahoo-ing Your Telecommunications
Yahoo! is now an official card carrying member of the "telecommunications club" with their purchase of DialPad.
Isn't it getting a bit crowded in here? I suspect there's going to HAVE to be more consolidation and "out of business" signs.
The Associated Press writes The Internet's leading portal will use DialPad to expand its product array in the burgeoning niche of Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, said company spokeswoman Joanna Stevens.
The technology converts conversations into data packets that traverse the Internet over broadband connections. Some in the industry think VoIP will eventually nudge the 130-year-old circuit-switched phone network into obsolescence.
What does this mean for your business? You can expect to see more features at lower prices from Yahoo!, Vonage, 8x8 and the few remaining telephone companies (SBC, Verizon, MCI, Sprint, AT&T)
