1&1 Internet - 9 months - 250,000 domains
1&1 Internet launched its US operations (it's a German owned company) in January 2004. Since then it's registered 250,000 domains. I'm not sure how many of these domaines translate into active web sites hosted though.
1and1 Internet has been carpet bombing advertising in so many magazines. Some of their ads are many pages long, some are just one page.
GoDaddy.com, Register.com, Yahoo, and others are in a fierce fight for the web sites and domains of businesses.
I host with Hypermart.net. I had some major problems with them in the past and as of now things appear to be resolved.
