DANTZ ANNOUNCES THE FIRST BUSINESS-CLASS BACKUP SOLUTION USING EXTERNAL HARD
DantzÆ Development Corporation, a leader in backup and restore software for small and midsize businesses
(SMBs), today announced the immediate availability of Dantz RetrospectÆ Disk-to-Disk for Windows. For the first time, inexpensive, high capacity external hard drives are practical for backing up SQL, Exchange, and Windows servers, filling a persistent gap in the market above optical media and below high-performance tape drives and autoloaders.
"With as few as two 1394 or USB2 external hard drives, a business can implement an offsite backup strategy using Retrospect Disk-to-Disk," said Tony Barbagallo, vice president of worldwide marketing at Dantz Development Corp. "As business needs change, the Retrospect family of products allows companies to move seamlessly across the spectrum of disk-based and tape-based backups."
"Our Solution Providers are excited because they can now provide cost-effective and easy-to-manage backup for servers by configuring them with portable hard drives and Retrospect Disk-to-Disk," said Dan Schwab, vice president of marketing at leading national computer products distributor D&H. "We now can offer the perfect backup strategy for any size SMB with the wide breadth of backup products from Dantz."
To be considered "business-class," backups must protect all important data and configurations, run automatically on a schedule, save time and conserve media by backing up only new and changed files during each session, enable offsite backups, and provide a variety of restore options including disaster recovery. Traditional backup software cannot provide business-class backup using only external hard drives because they were designed to work with a series of tapes and donπt adequately address the unique requirements of backing up to external hard drives.
"Today our customers are using the power of the Maxtor OneTouch external hard drives with Retrospect software to back up a desktop or notebook," said Mike Williams, vice president of product marketing at Maxtor. "Retrospect Disk-to-Disk software targets the needs of SMB customers to back up their valuable business data stored on Windows servers."
Retrospect Disk-to-Disk backs up a single server and is available at a suggested list price of $299. Additional client licenses are available. Retrospect Disk-to-Disk is part of the Dantz Retrospect 6.5 for Windows product family.
My spin: I'm not sure if this is the FIRST business-class solution..but then again that's marketing spin for you. In any case, read beyond the headlines for a good backup solution for your business.
