The Register: Sun aims StarOffice PC bundles at Joe User
My spin Start Office is NOT going to make huge inroads once uses find out the complexity they are going to have to go through when sharing files with Microsoft Office users. There is some compatibility but the pain is sometimes not worth it. Now for consumers who really don't need to do a lot of sharing, Star Office is a very low costa nd viable alternative to MSO. HOWEVER, Corel Word Perfect is there.
News Clip: Sun wants, and expects, to see StarOffice 6.1 "on the shelves of Fry's, CompuUSA and BestBuy" when the suite is released this Fall. StarOffice product manager Iyer Venkatesan confirmed to us on Friday that a beta would be released this week, with the final gold release slated for October. (full story)
