Notebook computers have emerged as a strong force in the overall PC market. Their market share rose from 17 percent of computer shipments in 1999 to 25 percent in the third quarter of 2002, according to research firm IDC. The driving force behind notebooks' increased popularity is their rapid decline in price, IDC analyst Alan Promisel told NewsFactor. At the same time, performance has increased dramatically.
