'WHITE BOX' PC VENDORS SNAG 58% GLOBAL MARKET SHARE

NewsScan (from Excite): The headlines tout the market dominance of big-name PC makes like Dell or Compaq, but a new survey by IDC shows that it's the small "white box" PC vendors who are doing a bang-up business, accounting for more than 58% of the personal computer sales in 2001. By comparison, Dell, Compaq and Hewlett-Packard captured less than a third of the world's PC market, or 13%,11% and 7%, respectively. (full story)
